The Mexican star currently has the WBA super middleweight world title and wants to add Saunders & # 39; WBO belt for his collection.
According to the Athletic Alvarez also considered colleague Brit Callum Smith a potential opponent, but the title of Saunders was a more attractive proposition.
Negotiations between the two hunters are set to continue and should the fight come to fruition, Alvarez would fall back to super middleweight after his step-up two weight classes to Sergey Kovalev defeat.
The win saw the 29-year-old become a four-weight champion but he quickly left the light-heavyweight title to unite the super-middleweight division.
Saunders & # 39; last fight came on the undercard of KSI & # 39; s rematch with Logan Paul at the Staples Center in November.
The 30-year-old British managed to beat Marceloa Esteban Coceres in the penultimate round to pick up the win.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Saunders, would like to put his husband against Alvarez, who has a mega-10 combat agreement with streaming site DAZN.
Alvarez regularly fights on party weekend May 5, with Daniel Jacobs his most recent victim in which the Mexican beat him on points last year.
Saunders is currently undefeated after 29 fights and has once successfully defended his belt.
